Wedding Dance Songs – No. 10 I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston

People often ask what song they should choose for their first wedding dance. While many couples have “their song”, a lot of brides to be struggle to get H2BE to commit to a soppy song for the first wedding dance! I have put together a series of posts on first dance songs and will where possible include a video of the song and the lyrics. Initially, I will count down the UK’s Top Ten first wedding dance songs – any ideas on what Ireland’s Top Ten might be??

To kick things off, in at number 10 (in my best DJ voice!) is I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston. I really love this song when you look at the lyrics, I am not sure that saying “Goodbye” is what you want to be thinking on your wedding day! I suppose that is a decision you will have to make! Many “slushy” songs are carried by the melody and the lyrics are not necessarilty of the “together forever” variety!

Lyrics

If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I’ll go, but I know
I’ll think of you ev’ry step of the way.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you. Hmm.

Bittersweet memories
that is all I’m taking with me.
So, goodbye. Please, don’t cry.
We both know I’m not what you, you need.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.

(Instrumental solo)

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you’ve dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.

You, darling, I love you.
Ooh, I’ll always, I’ll always love you.

Heart Theme Wedding – Heart Theme Wedding Favours & Accessories

If  you have decided on a heart theme wedding or would just like to include this symbol of romance in your choice of wedding decorations, wedding favours and accessories, there are a large selection of options available to you. You can choose to go for a full on, no-holds barred affair of  the heart or you can subtley include your heart theme is various aspects of your wedding day. While we traditionally associate the colour red with heart themes, you can co-ordinate this wedding theme with a colour of your choice. I have given some ideas below for decorations and finishing touches that will bring your heart theme wedding to life!

Wedding Table Decorations

You might decide to choose place cards with a heart motif on them or alternatively heart shaped place card holders. You can also add heart table confetti in a colour of your choice. Your floral centrepieces can be complimented with some heart shaped accessories or replaced  with an arrangement of heart shaped baubles, for example.

Heart Theme Wedding Budget Tip: Instead of placing heart shaped favour boxes on the table for each guest, why not hang them from jewellery tree in the centre of the table to create your centrepiece? This can create a very unique centrepiece while cutting costs at the same time!

Slush Puppy Moment – In Her Shoes Moment – I Carry You In My Heart By E.E. Cummings

I am going to start things off with a chick flick moment. In Her Shoes may not qualify for as a “wear out the DVD” chick flick movie (my opinion only!), but when Cameron Diaz read this poem, my heart melted and I know at least one person who was reduced to tears (not me – I promise!).

I admit that my days of studying or even reading poetry ended when the ink dried on my Leaving Cert English Paper, but there is something about I Carry You in my Heart  that I find evocative, heart warming and that I believe will transcend time and be forever relevant to the romantics in this life!

This poem is great for inclusion in a bridesmaid speech or could be included after your personal message to your guests at the end of your Wedding Ceremony Book.  I have read this so often, I think I could create a complete wedding theme based on these words!!

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

Introducing the Wedding Favours Blog Slush Puppy Moment!!

For those of you who don’t know me, I am a total slush puppy! Yes I am a chick flick girl and a film doesn’t count as a real chick flick unless the girl gets the guy (or the guy the guy or…. you get my drift). I want to leave the cinema with that warm fuzzy feeling and happy smiley face achieved only by a truly romantic ending. Forget reality, this is purely for entertainment and the fulfilment of fantastic notions of romance.

In reality, I believe in true romance. This is not the stuff of bouquets of red roses and boxes of chocolates, unless of course that is truly what the heart desires. It is about two people truly knowing each other and knowing inherently how to make each other’s heart smile. So if you are reaching for the nearest bucket now, you might want to breeze over my slush puppy moment posts. If however you, like me, are in love with romance and all it’s public manifestations, then I will bring you my favourites from the movies, music and of course real life! Please feel free to email me your own favourite slush puppy moments – mary@weddingfavoursboutique.ie!

Wedding Favours: The Tradition of Giving your Guests 5 Sugared Almonds

When you decide to give your guests wedding favours you are giving your guests a token of your gratitude for their participation in your very special day. Traditionally 5 sugared almonds are given to wedding guests, presented in favour boxes or favour bags. But where did this tradition come from and what is the significance of “5”?

The traditions associated with the wedding favours in particular, date back to the 16th Century in Italy, when the Italians began to produce sugar. At that time sugar was considered a luxury food, afforded only by wealthy aristocrats. These aristocrats would give their wedding guests gifts of sugar in ornate gem encrusted, crystal or porcelain gift boxes, known as bombonieres on their wedding day. As sugar became more accessible to the general population, the tradition became more popular and giving favours to wedding guests became more widespread.

Over time the sugar in bombonieres was replaced with sugared almonds. 5 sugared almonds were given to guests to represent good wishes of   Health, Wealth, Happiness, Fertility and Long Life.

These days sugared almonds are available in a variety of colours, so if you would like your wedding favours to include this tradition,  you have the opportunity to co-ordinate your choice of confectionary with your wedding theme colours!

If you wish to read more about the traditions of wedding favours you may wish to visit my article at  Wedding Favours: The History of Wedding Favours from Sugar Cubes to Eye Candy on mrs2be.ie wedding discussion forum.
